News 1m ? been received of a terrible disaster having occurred to the peail fleet on the northwest coast. The fleet had anchored at the ninety miie beach, above Grey river, on the 22nd inst, when .•in awful hurricane occurred. A great number of the boats Avere dismasted, and many driven to sea, others bein<r swamped. Suores of expert swimmers in trying to reach the Shore sank exhausted. Over forty boats aro missing, of which a large proportion sank, 1 while others drifted out to sea dismasted* It is calculated that fully five hundred and fifty white and native divers have perished.
