The Prince of Wales's Stables

" I hear that the Prince of Wales has commissioned John Porter, of Kingsclere, his trainer, to purchase, as occasion offers," a few choicely -bred mares, for the bi'eeding stud which his Royal Highness has resolved to establish at Sandringham, where there are several paddocks admirably adapted for the purpose to Avhich they are devoted. Several roomy boxes are now being built at Sandringham for the mares in the new stud, which, I understand, is to be under the charge of F. Walker, who was studgroom to the late F. Archer, at Newmarket. Lady Peggy, who was bought by the Prince of Wales as a yearling for 1,000 guineas from Sir Tatton Sykes, and who excited a sensation by unexpectedly winning a Maiden Plate at Newmarket on the Cambridgeshire Day, is the first mare in this new Royal stud, and she has been sent to Bend Or, at Eaton. The Queen might as well make over the Hampton Court stud to the Prince of Wales, who would probably take an active interest in its management. Of late years there has been a great deal of muddling in connection with this establishment, which in one way and another is a considerable* xpense to the country. "— " World."
