A Russian Railway.
Sir James Ferguson, Parliamentary Secretary for the Colonial Office, stated in the Commons on March 10th that the railway being constructed by tbe Russian Government from the eastern shore of the Caspian sea has reached Cnarjui on the river Oxue. He added that the British Government had no reason to belisve that Russia was massing troop.s there Despatches received from Simla state that a Russian military surveying expe lition for Central Asia has Btarted from Orenburg for Tashkend. From Ta&hkend the expedition will push across to the Indo Chinese frontiers The main object of the expedition is to discover and report upon a practical military route through the comparatively un known country lying between Russia and the British Chinese territory in the direction indicated. The party will be escorted by a strong body of irregular cavalry The Indian Government ie arranging to despatch a surveying party to explore the came region, and the two parties will probably meet in the Hindoo-Chinese mountain range.
