HORSES FOR THE ENGLISH ARMY. SOCIALIST VICTORIES IN GERMANY.
London February 22. In the House of Commons last night Sir James Fergurfson, Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs, made a statement to the effect that Sir Drummond Wolff's proposalswith regard to fegypt would not involve the withdrawal of British troopß from that country while Egypt was unable to defend herself. In reply to a question in the House of Commons, Mr Stanhope, Secretary of Waiy admitted that the recent purchases of hui'ses in Canada were to provide for neceßsary requirement? in the event ot the army hiving to be mobilised.
Berlin, February 22. Partial returns of the elections show that tho Government have been defeated in this city, for which two Socialists have been returned, and for the Hamburg three more h<ive been elected. The Socialists everywhere have gained ground.
["PRKSS ASSOCIATION J London, February 22. The elections to the German Reichstag commenced to day. In Berlin two Socialists were elocted, and at Hamburg and Breslau Socialists were returned. Count Yon Moltke and Herr Richter were elected. The future elections will, it is believed, result in a formidable increase in the Socialists' strength.
