The following Bworn statement, made t)^ the bankrupt at time of filing, was first read by the Deputy Official Assignee: My name" is Thomas Luck Green. lam now keeping a store at Te Aroha: Before I came 1 to Te Aroha I was mining at the Thames; I contracted principally at the Waifoa for the Auckland Agricultural Company, ani worked for wages the first two years a£ Te Arolia. I hurt my back about three years ago, and could not do any hard work. I sold a few vegetables and trees for a livelihood since that time. About eight months ago I opened a small store, selling fruit, seeds and trees. There was no°t enough consumption of fruit to make it pay; I had no money when I started the store. Part of my debts were incurred while carrying on this business— l think about a hundred pounds. I took a contract in the beginning of December 1886, to cut and save grass seed for the Auckland Agricultural Company. The price was 3s per bushel. Owing to the want of having sufficient means to carry out the work, and also the dry season, I lost heavily. I owe now Avages to men employed on the contract £290, as possible. I have two allotments at Te, Aroha, leasehold under the Goldfields Act, quarter-acres, which I value at £50. There are fifteen or sixteen 1 years to run on the lease. I also own a horse, which is very old, and hardly o£ any value. I owe more than a hundred pounds to business people in Te Aroha; My life is not insured, and I am not in a position to offer my creditors any compromise. The total liabilities were estimated at £654 15s 4d, no portion of which wai was secured, and about £300 of the amount was due for wages. The assets were set down as follows : Stock-in-trade of green grocer's shop and nursery, £91 18s lOd ; two residence site allotments, with cottage, £50 ; book debts estimated to realise £10. Total, £151 18s JOd. The bankrupt being on oath, in reply to various creditors, stated that he received £508 in cash from the Auckland Agricultural Company, £360 of which he paid away in wages, and the balance tb various tradesmen Jin the district to whom he owed money. He had no verbal agreement with any person when he took tlie contract from ihe Auckland Agricultural Company. He' had no copy of the agreement made between himself and Mr Bailey the company's manager ; Mr Bailey retained it when they settled up. It was proposed and carried unanimously that the bankrupt be permitted to retain liis furniture and tools of trade. Resolved, that the Assignee realise the estate as soon as possible, for the benefit of the creditors".
