TALMAGE AND REPORTERS.
The Rev. Talmage lias had considerable experience in the newspaper' world, and has the following words for' tnose poor hardworked individuals, the newspaper reporters : ' Talk about our reporters not being truthful and honest/ said Rev. Dr Talmage, when is atten-' tion was called. to a recent report of am oceurene'e in New York City, ' I think they are, as a rule,' more truthful than, those who say they are rioi. I personally know a great many reporters on the papers in New York City, and they are all perfect gentlemen. I have never' been misrepresented during all the years I have been acquainted with newspaper men. I have never had a reporter break faith with me. Whenever they have promised to return a manuscript,or omit anything, they have invariably done just as they said they would do. That thero are mistakes in newspapers? I am willing to admit, but I am not willing to admit that they are made purposely. The trouble with most meri is that they are constantly trying to 1 keep something back instead of being perfectly open, frank, and free. This the reporters invariably discover, arid they will invariably find put Tvhail that something is* . Most of the • mistakes and misiepiresentations made in reports are mistakes that can always be charged upon some one out of the riewspap^f office — usually an interested person. 1
