AMERICAN NEWS. San Francisco, January 16.
The strike of the conductors and gripmen on the Geary-atreet and Sutter-etreet cable roads, San Francieco, has reached the point of outrage. On the 14th, a catr \ and dummy, while in motion, and filled with passengers, was blown up by dynamite, and the people thrown some 15 feet by the concustion, Fortunately, no one waa hurt. The strikers have established a competing line of omnibuses on both roads. Nuws war. received in Hew York, on January 13th, of the abandonment of the , stoamsh'p Celtic Monarch, at fcea, in a sinking condition. The steamship belonged to the Monarch line, and loft Cardiff on January 2nd, for Philadelphia. The crew were rescued by the steamer Lake Superior. There were no passengers. John Roach, the celebrated shipbuilder, died January 10th, from cancer in the roof of the mouth.
