Brigands Repulsed,
An exciting scene occurred at the Fonte Froide Monastery, in the vicinity of Narbonne, France. A dozen brigands descended upon the vicinity and scaled
the monastery walls. They were well armed with daggers and revolvers. The Father Superior, who was quietly resting in hia room, was surprised by a man who pressed a revolver at bis head. The ruffian, backed by others, demanded money. The Abbot, not losing hie pvesence of mind, replied, "We are sixty and you are twelve," and, springing to a rope near by, rang loudly the chapel bell. The monks "hurriedly rushed in in response to the alarm, and a short conflict resulted in the flight of the brigands, who fired a, volley before thoy decamped, by which three monks were Beverely wounded. The ruffians captured no treaeuie. The authorities were warned, and gens-d'-armes are now in pursuit of the robber band.
