The proprietors c r the Monastery mine have started u> treat a 30 ton parcel of quartz a* X,,;> ley's plant, and they expect a gorul c turn. Driving the intermediate hv?\ the Crown mine is still in progress, o,i ' stone of fair quality is being obu^-.v' every shif€. It is stated that thia .c>, pany intend sending a ten ton pai\o> ..' third class quartz to Railey's plan' l \n treatment, and should this prove to i~e remunerative, there are about 300 tons similar stuff broken out ready for li?.:\* sit. The Rose crushing at Railey's plan:, of 14 tons of quartz, yielded 6ioz i«»torted, 590z lOdwts melted gold. On Wednesday last cleaning up fnr the Dnbbo mine took place at Railey's plant for a return of 54 ounces of rs« 1 tortod bullion being the produce- «tf a

WAIHI. The winze in the Silverton mine has attained a depth of 47ft under the floor of the mnin level, and stone showing gold freely is being obtained every shift. •Since my tost visit a large amount of dead work has been done in the Union mine, where there is now a large block •of ground opened up ready for stoping operations. A considerable ionnnge of, •quartz has been broken out from the, different sections of tne mine during the last six weeks, but owing to' 'the long continued drought there is not sufficient water in the company's rage to, drive five heaci of stampers. Messrs J. TV. Walker, Mooro, and others have nVarked off several new claims here, and 'it is rumoured that another large company is to be formed, with a ■view of being floated on the London Stock Exchange! Mr L. Jackson, Surveyor, is now engaged in making a survey of a water raceftn'd machine site for the U.iion Company, which it is^fcated is on the eve of boing floated in "London.

Hollis and party, tributers in the "VVaitekauri mine, have now got the ; of their hoppers, paddocks, and ,fpnsses, blocked up with crushing dirt,, Nvhich cannot bo treated at present owing to the short supply of water for battery purposes. Ralph and party, owners of the Maungakara mine and battery, have now •a large staff of hands employed breaking 'quartz, which 'is shaping at the battery for a fairly good return. In the Welcome mine Birney and -party are working away as usual, and -they expect to have a good sized parcel 'of quarts ready for crushing very shortly.

OWHAEOA. There is no change ra the very dull state of affairs here, and bat small chance of improvement in the near future, unless Mr Abbott succeeds in floating his company in England.
