Considerable commotion exists over alieg ed scratching ot.MitralleuseforNewniarket handicap. The owner says he did not ccratch her. True cause of the whole affair is probably that the Hon. W. Robinson of Christchurch, has cabled scratching of his horses for all engagements at V.R.C. meeting, and secretary has confounded name of Canterbury Sportsman with that of Mitvalleuse's owner. Statements Lave it appears been made by prisoners Caffrey and Perm to Rev. J. S. Hill, who, however, was of opinion publication thereof would be undesirable.
