THE NEW YEAR.
I halting stand a pilgrim stranger here ; Before ino flea a new untrodden year ; And what awaits mo on my unknown way I cannot; tell ; but I can humbly pray That God wiJl keep my feet from ilia and snares, That God will keep my heart from fears and ■ oares t That God will guide me through the deaei't road. A»d lead me onward to Hig bright abod«, Where, 'mid tho glorified, in mansions bleat, My soul shall find its everla&tiug roet.
I launoh my bark up6n an unknown tide. And out upon the shadowed waters glide ; Not knowing whether tempeatß shall aasail. Or how my masts ahull tremble 'neath the gale*. The raging currents I oannot control, And yet in peace I will possess my eoul ; And pray that he who ruled the raging sea. Will my Commander rtnd cay Pilot be ; And bring me where all atoms aud tempest*, eoaee. To the calm haven of eternal peace. I know not how the year shell pas* or end, But well I know my Saviour is my friend: I know not now what, woes shall to me come, But well I know that theie is rest at home : I know nov what flarce food shall me assail, But wfill I know my Helper will not fail : I know not what my journey may befall,. Whut m liters ie if Jesiw is my all ? My times are all with Him, and He shall gtflde My feet to rest, beyond time's rolling tide.
