KARANGAHAKE SPLENDID YIELD FROM ADELINE.

The great sensation of the week here has been the return got frotn the parcel of quartz treated for the Adeline mine at Railey's plant. The stuff dealt with was five tons of ordinary general dirt and the return obtained therefrom was 83oz of retorted gold, or at the value of ll£ ounces per ton. From the stamper boxes and plates 470z lOdwts of gold was obtained And in the subsequent treatment of the crushed ore with the pans and settlers, 35 ounces 10 dwts of ahe precious metal was recovered. This yield beats that secured from similar stuff at the Moanatairi battery, Thames, by 5 ounces per ton, and it surpasses anything of the kind hitherto obtained from the treatment of any general dht in this district. At the Ivanhoe battery 16 head of stampers are funning half time in the reduction of quartz from the company's mine, arid the show on the plates is equal to a payable return. Twelve tenders were sent in for the different tribute sections in the Woodstock mine, and it is stated that some of the tenderers offered as high as 20 per cent "for nue ti tiie blocks.

WAIHI. On Monday last a fresh Start was rfmde in the Martha mine under the aus pices of the company. The work in hand is that of taking out a block of ground between the floor of the low level and the back of the stopes that Avero carried on the reef north and south of tho riiine. There are two parties of tributers working in this mine and both have got. large parcels of crushing dirt ready for treatment. Sinking beneath the floor of the low level in the Silvarton mine is still being continued on the hanging wall side of the lode, and gold \s pretty evenly distributed throughout the stone, which is now 'coming to hand from the bottom of tiro winze, at a depth of '13ft beneath the starting point. In the Union mine a start has been made to rise from the Rosomont low level so as to effect a connection with the intermediate workings. The reef; here is fully 4ft in thickness, shows gold, very frequently ; and the whole body of, the stone is being saved for treatment.' The prospecting level in the Winner mine is now in a distance of of 400ffc, and the manager expects to have tho reef in hand at a point about 20ft ahead of the Drescnt face.

OWUAROA Frearson and party, tributers in the Smile of Fortune mine, are breaking out some very good dirt, which they will crush shortly, and from which they expect a payable return.
