A terrible sensation ha 3 been created by the sudden death of Lord Iddesleigh. Wild rumors have been in circulation as to the circumstances of his death. The facts are these. Lord Randolph Churchill haa for some time past being at open strife with Lord Iddesleigh. This has conaiderafaly affected the veteran politician, and thd latest efforts of the younger members of the Conservative party to shunt him from the Cabinet, has led to the development of an acute form of nervous agitation, Lord Iddeeleigh strongly objected to the iatesfc attempt to lower hie political status, and as a protest to the treatment which hia lordship received, his son, the Hon. H. S Northcote, reaigned hia position as Surveyor-General of Ordance. When Lord Iddesleigh was removed from the Foreign Office to give place to the Hon, E. Stanhope, hia lordship ■was offered the choice of the post of Lord Privy Seal or that of Lord President of the Council, Both of these positions Lord Iddesleigh declined, and openly avowed that he would not re-enter the Salisbury Ministry. The determined action of his Lordship was not anticipated^ by the Marquis of Salisbury, who requested Lord Iddealeigh to grant him an iutervie'w in order that they might discuss the situation. It was at that interview when the tragic end came. During the interview Lord Iddesleigh dis played greater excitement than was his wont, and while in the beat of discussion he suddenly faltered, fall back, and died almost instantly.
