DOMAIN BOARD.

The annual meeting of the Te Arolia Thermal Springs Domain Board (ad- j journed from Tuesday previous through I the Secretary having prepared no bal-ance-sheet or statement of accounts), was held ou Saturday evening last in the Board room. Present : Messrs T. Gavin (chairman), 0. Ahier (secretary), G. Wilson, and G. Lipsoy. Minutes of the meeting held on Jan. Bth were first read and confirmed, after which the business of the annual meeting was proceeded with. Mr Gavin vacated the chair, but was voted chairman pro tern. A Balance-sheet but no Statement of Assets and Liabilities. — The Chairman , said : The meeting had been adjourned in

order to give the Secretary time to make out a balance-sheet, and asked Mr Ahier if he had prepared one ; whereupon Mr Ahier laid the following balance-sheet before the meeting for the year ending 31st December, 1886 : — Receipts : Government grants, £879 13s Id ; sale of hay, £1 ; receipt, from bafchs, £539 10s; deposits by contractors, £11 10s ; rofund of railway chargos, 3s 2d ; poundAge fees, 8s ; transfer account to No. 2 account, £55. Total, £1487 4s 3d. Expenditure : Fencing, 59 3s 6d ; caretaker's wages, £218 7s ; expended on caretaker's house, £21 15s ; repairs etc, to drinking spring, £16 16s ; wages to men working on the grounds, etc., £212 8s 7d ; clerical assistance, £1 Is; transfer account to No. 2 account, £55; trees, planting, etc., £15 lid lOd ; cold water supply, £81 11s lid ; ironmonger's and blacksmith's accounts, £116 19s 9d ; advertising, printing, and stationery, £14 Is ; legal expenses, £1 12s 6d ; miscellaneous, £32 14s lid ; insurance, £2 16s 3d ; Engineer's commission, £78 8s ; carting, £26 7s 3d ; painting, £27 8s Id ; bank interest,£2 2s 3d; on buildings and timber, £311 0s 9d ; rent, £1 8s ; deposit account, £9 ; freight, £15 6s 6d ; overdraft at bank, £130 12s lid ; credit balance at bank 31st December (£49 7s 3d less unpresented cheques £13 16s) £35 11s 3d. Total, 1487 4s 3d. The Secretary, on being asked for a list of outstanding accounts, said he had not prepared one ; the balance-sheet he had presented simply referred to the past year's transactions. The Chairman : Anyone reading that balance-sheet, but not knowing our real position, would infer we had a credit balance at the bank. Mr Wilson : It woulu be well if the Secretary gave ns an estimate of outstanding liabilities. Mr Ahier : I reckon our outstanding liabilities at about £50 or £60, at the present time. i Mr Wilson : Before that balancesheet is published it would be wise to first obtain a lbt of all outstanding liabilities. The Chairman : By the balance-sheet prepared, I should say the Board stood very well, if I did not know better ; it shows a credit balance, and we have not got it. Mr Lipsey : I think \* e ought to have some means of knowing what we owe people ; some book should be kept for this purpose, so that we could at any time know our real position, and not be depending on people to send in their accounts to know. It was decided before proceeding further to prepare a list of outstanding liabilitie? in each member of the Board assisted, the [result being that they were estimated at about £131 8s lOd to end of the year less balance in bank £35 11s 3d, or nett £95 17s 7d. It was decided an inventory ought to be prepared of property in the shape of tools and working plant. Receipts. — The Secretary stated the receipts for the past week amounted to £19. Election of Chairman. —On the motion of Mr Lipsey, seconded by Mr Wilson, Mr T. Gavin was elected chairman for the ensuing year. Mr Gavin, in accepting the position, returned thanks for the honour in terms suitable to the occasion. Mr Wilson remarked it would be well to prepare an annual report, to be forwarded to the Hon. Minister of Lands. It was decided to cairy out Mr Wilson's suggestion. This concluding the business of the annual meeting it was closed, and a special meeting opened. Insurance. — It was resolved that Mr Ahier be instructed to effect insurances on the various buildings, as follows :—: — No. 1, L5O ; No. 2, Ll5O ; No. 3, Ll5O ; No. 4, L4O ; No. 5, L3O ; No. 6, LlOO ; octagon, L3O ; Board room, LlB ; office, L2O ; caretaker's house, L6O. Total, L 648. Sale of Bath Tickets.— This matter was again brought up and discussed, but no decision was arrived at, it being ultimately decided to leave the matter in the hands of the Chairman and Secretary to arrange After the passing of sundry accounts the meeting closed.
