A friend who wanted to convince him that cannibalism was not extinct went with him to a voodoo temple in which the negroes' superstitious anniversaries were celebrated. Both were disguised as negroes, and smuggled into the throng by a friendly ne^ro. The ceremonies wove closed by cutting the throats of a boy ami rid 5 j-cais os age, the blood from the wounds being caught, in vessels. The writer fled whon the boy was killed, but tho-friend remained to the end, reporting that the bodies were cut up, cooked, and eaten by negroes. The greater part of the article is devoted to the history of cannibalism on the i«lnnd, and it is paid that the belief prevails that President Salomon is himself a voodoo worshipper, and encourages the worship.
