Swiftly the avalaache rushes From its h< rut* on the mountain's breast ; As swiftly hfe'a buraen of sorrow Came down on the bridal nest And the bell is tolling, tolling, And many will weep and Dray As the lone one calls on the treasured name Of him who has passed away. Gently Iho coffin they lower. To its rest in the Darrow bed, And f cms ly i hey deck with their love-wreaths The lonely home of the dead. And the heart has ceased its beating And rests 'neath the daieied sod. Though 'tis pukeiesa now, it shall beat again When touched by the hand of God. Back to the soul of the widow Come the visions of other days, When never a sigh nor a sorrow Wer.t up with the song ot praise. And th.3 bells are chiming, cniminsf, How sweetly they now ring out ! Ard the ihnlliDg music of nature's bards Chimes in with the village shout. There are the lanes, and the meadows. And the woods where the violets grew, And up by the borne on the hillside Yet linger the charm 4 they knew. And the bolla aro chiming, chiming, But not for her brow to-day Was the bridal wreath, or the loving kiss, This beautiful morn of May. But fir the soul upspringing From the gloom of the caverns lone, There's sunshine at last in the love-light That flashes from out the throne.
