About hf t from the top of the winzo the reef split into two, and it is on the hanging wall portion that the winze is being sunk. The footwall portion is from 9i*n to 12in also carrying nice gold visible in the stone, and work upon this portion will be commenced at an early date. Wo understand application will be made at the next meeting of the Piako County Council to have the Werahiko branch tramway extended to this claim, a distance of 4£ chains. The request is one we feel confident the Council will comply with, as the track was recently cut (being portion of No. '2, or Hogan and party's contract), and it is only necessary to lay the sleepers and rails, both of which are available as county property. Two new claims have been applied for adjoining this property, and several experienced miners are engaged in prospecting in the immediate vicinity New Find. — The low level is now in about 280 ft, and the ground has improved for driving during the last few days. Other work in the mine is progressing much as usual. This week two trial parcels were treated. One of 7 trucks from the foo f wall portion of the reel in Arizona stopes yielded (without tailings) 4oz 12dwts, whilst another of 10 trucks from No. 3 surface (without tailings) yielded Goz 12dwts. Success. — Crushing for tins claim recommenced at Firth and Clarkes battery on Thursday last, with 5 head of stampers. The show on the plates is excellent, and the clean up will probably take place on Monday. The winze is
