The Eruption at Hawaii.
The steamer Mararoa, on arriving at San Francisco, brought Honolulu dates to August 27th. A correspondent writes to the Honolulu " Bulletin," under date of August 17th, from the volcano : *' A new lake has broken out. It is about 600 feet long by 300 wide, and during our atay it was continually in the greatest activity, boiling and surging like • huge caldron. A large cave-in has occurred on this side of Halemaumau. A little te the right a new blow hole baa broken out. This also as very active, puffing like the exhaust from • huge engine. At times ie shoots up solid Streams of lava a foot in diameter and thirty feet high. And again the whole top would break off and it would vomit forth a stream of white hot lava several feet in diameter. Hot air and sulphur fumes are coming in great and increasing quantities from the cracks in the floor of the old crater to the northward of Halemaumau, and there is ev9ry indication of intense action in the near future."
