August 31.— Advices from Core* say that owing to a rumonr that Russia intandß to establish a protectorate in Corea. the Chinese Minister there telegraphed to the Pekin Government asking that troops be sent to thePeninaula, and that In compliance with the, request the Chinese Government despatched pine men ofwar with troops on board to Corea, and they are now anchored before Chemulpo. .The despatches further say that- large numbers of "Chinese soldiers have entered Seoul in the disguise of merchants. Great excitement prevailed in that town. Riotous mobs were parading the streets, and conflicts were frequent.
