THE MINES.
Nrw Find. — The new low level is now in about 230 ft and is still being driven by wages men. At the beginning of this week a new reef was met with in the course of driving, which has somewhat retarded progress ; but so far it has not proved of any value. When the drive gets clear of this reef it is expected the country will improve again. Stoping is being pushed ahead, the principal operations at present being in the No. 1 reef south from Arizona level, from which good crushing dirt is being obtained. From the |surface of No. lreef on Arizona run A large quantity of payable crushing dirt is coming to hand, through which a fair amount of gold can be seen Stop ing is also in progress on No. 1 reef south above low level, and from here also crushing dirt of good quality is oeing obtained. A start; has been made to prospect on the surface between the No. 1 and No. 2 runs ; here a little gold is to be seen, and the reef presents a kindly appearance. Success. — This claim, which includes a large portion of the old Waitoki Extended Co.'s property, is now being prospected by Tringham and party. Some very fair loose stone has been met with, and altogether the prospects are decidedly encouraging. Waiorongomai.— Several applications trere received from those desirous of working this mine on tribute, and the following have been allotted sections : Messrs Sampson and Mace (in the Three Fools portion) Smith and Jamieson (in Provincial portion) ; Munro and Jackson (Three Fools portion). This will mean the employment of about a dozen fresh hands. The Virginia City portion of the property has been reserved | to the Company at present.
