LATEST FROM THAMES. Thames, Last Night. The Police to-day made a raid on the houhe of Charles McLean, and found in one room three wild ducks and two large white swans. Information has been laid against him under the Animals Protection Act for shooting game out of season. Detective Doolan left for Auckland to-day where lie will do detective duty ; his place at the Thames will not be tilled by any new appointment.
MACKAYTOWN SCHOOL. Auckland, Last Night. At the Board of Education to-day upplications were read from Ohmemuri asking for ienewal of furniture destroyed by fire. Referred to Government to ask refund of the loss. A letter from Alexander Hogg*, asking the Board to establish a school «t Mackaytown, was referred to the Karangahake School Committee.
LATEST FROM AUCKLAND. Over forty cases to recover rates were brought by Mr Seaman in the R.M. Court to-day, with a view to forfeiture of lanas. All went by default. The land amounts to 2877 acres. The local bodies generally are putting in* force their powers to sell lands for non-payment of rates. At the Police Court to-day James Kay was committed for trial for alleged criminal libel on William Green. The libel was contained in letters written by Kay to friends of both parties.
MAYORALTY OF AUCKLAND. A requisition has received 200 signatnres asking Mr Devore to stand for Mayor. Mr Devore has accepted,

Kauri gum has risen £3 per ton. At Thames a public meeting has been convened by the Mayor for the 22nd inst., to consider the advisability of borrowing £1250 from Government to purchase Waiokaraka Flat as a recreation ground.
New Plymouth, Last Night. The Hon. Mr Ballance yesterda}' visited Waihi, North Waitara, to see the natives there, and received several deputations, this morning. He was to leave by the Rotorua this afternoon for Auckland.
WELLINGTON WINS FOOTBALL MATCH. , Wellington, Last Night. In tho football return match against New South Wales, Wellington won easily by eighteen points to Sydney nil.
