Attempted Assault on a Young Lady.

Sydney, August 11. A' determined attempt to commit a criminal assault on a young lady, about 19 years of age, a resident of Morpeth, was made on Monday evening in a railway carriage, \ while the 9 p.m. train was proceeding from East Maitland to Morpeth. Her assailant was a stranger i who gave his .name as Henry Miller. He is evidently a working man, and is about 23 years of age. The screams 6f the young lady attracted tho notice of a gentleman named Alhvorth, who was in the next carriage, and be succeeded in arresting, the. attention of the driver of the train, who stopped, and the guard and j several passengers went to the young lady's J assistance in time.to prevent the man from carrying out his purpose. The fellow de- j camped when t the train came to a standstill, but. he was pursued by a railway employe^ named Guilfoyle, and captured, and was, brought on in, Ahe train, to Morpeth, where he was ■ banded,;, over- to the custody of the: > police.
