Utfiox. — The work of duving the low level northwards upon the reef is still in pi ogress and the lode here averaging 8 feet in thickness is 3'ielding a large quantity of good crashing dirt. In the leading stope some very good stone is being broken out from the reef which keeps an average thickness of 8 feet and carries both gold and silver throughout. During the week Mr J. W. Walker has received letters from San Francisco stating that a parcel of ore sent there some 'time since for treatment has yielded an average return of L2O per ton. The firm by whom the ore was treated suggest the advisability of sending large parcels which they are prepared to purchase on its essay value They speak very highly of the ore and advocate the adoption of the following process for its treatment : First dry crushing then roasting in a " Howell Whit© Revolving Furnace," to conclude with pan amalgamation. Silverton. — There is some grand stone coming to hand from the stope going south of the winze in this mine. The reef here id now being broken out to a width of 7 feet and there is more or less gold showing throughout the whole body of the stone. As soon as the road leading from the mine to the Martha battery is fit for carting, crushing operations will be started and the next return should enable the directors to declare a handsome dividend. Martha Extended. — Stevenson ami party contractors, are still engnged in the work of extending the low level southwards in which direction the reef appears to improve as it is driven upon. Bosemont.-— Since writing last a hard bar was met with in the low level but this has now been cut through and the going in the present face is all that can be desired for all round mining purposes.
