BACHELORS' BALL, AT WAIORONGOMAI.
The annnal "Waiorongomai Bachelors' Ball and Supper came off in the Public Hall on Friday, 13th insr The decorations (consisting of evergreens, fia<(S, and banners, etc.), were carried out by Messrs Oronin and Cahill with excellent good taste, the effect, when' the hall was lit up, being 1 very pleasing. Particularly noticeable on entPiimf was a large banner over the stage bearing the inscription
" Welcome" in large gold letters on black ground, whilst directly underneath iwo licarfs closely united, and pnr-rmn-led by the words "Our Jlearty Union,*' was represented ;» underneath which was the following : " From the Baehelots'' — "With greetings to you ladies, We hail you all Iq-nigbt, To join with you both heart and hand It is our chief delightThere was n, xory large gathering, nil (he surrounding district being well represented, and some friends were present from Cambridge. Dancing commenced shortly after 8 o'clock, and was kept up wir.h much spirit till 5 a.m. ; with nn interlude of our hour for supper. The whole nfTair past off most successful!}", reflecting much credit on the committee who carried out the arrangement*, Messrs Quinlan Bros, provided the music (violin and piccolo)", in their usual excellent form ; whilst Mr A. A. Wallace, as caterer, gave every Fatis faction. During the evening Messrs Sampson and Smith varied Iho proceedings by dancing sailor's hornpipe, followed by Mr M. Cronin in a step dance, others contributing songs. Where so many b2lles were present it would be inviduous ro single out any one in particular. The following were some of the dresses worn on the occasion :—: — Miss Conwfty : Pink satin, silver . jewellery. Mis 1 ? O'Connor : Green cashmere, trimming* to match. Mi^s Mace : Black cashmere, black trimming's. Miss Gerrhh : Pink bodice, black cashmere skirt. Miss O'Hanlon : Maroon cn<*hmere. Miss "Webb : ]\laroon cashmere. Miss Fugil : Wine-coloured cashmere, silver jewellery. Miss £. Fugil : Maroon cashmere, silver jewellery. Miss Tonge : "White muslin, pale pink trimmings. Miss Reynolds : Drab cashmere. Miss Milne : Grey mohair, black satin trimmings. Miss M. Samson : Brown ln=(re, velvet trimming". Miss Hill : Wine-coloured velveteen, satin himmings. Mi^s Jnek^on : Brown "ilk. Miss Kon^han : Green figured satin. Miss Day : Green cashmere, brochi 1 trimmings. Mrs A. Wallace : Black cashmere, broehe trimmings. Mrs D. Wai 'ace : Black cashmere, broehe trimmings. Mrs Baskiville : Black satin, silver jewellery. Mrs Jamieson : Black satin, cardinal trimmings. Mr Lawless : Black satin, cardinal tiimmings, gol^l jewellery. Mrs D. .Samson • Fnun-jolourcd mohair, black satin trimmings. : Mrs Jeffrey : Black satin bodice, ciearn nun's veiling skiit. Mrs M. W. 1). O'Keeffo : Green velveteen, satin himmings. Mrs McGatvie : Blue and Jiablustio, silver jewellery. Mrs T. Goidsworthy : Figured satin, white lace trimininq-s. Mm T. Scott : Black cashmere, black silk trimmings.
