GORDON SPECIAL SETTLEMENT:
Much dissatisfaction has been expressed by the Gordon Settlement party at the excessive delay on the part of Government in forwarding the plan of the survey cf the settlement as finally agreed to. It appears however fron recent communications from the Survey Department, that Mr Cheal, the surveyor, has occasioned the delay. In a letter from Mr James McKerrovr, SurveyorGeneral, addressed to the Secretary, dated st!i inst.. tho following passage occurs : — the delay (in furnishing 1 you •frith a plan of the survey) has been caused by the contractor for the survey, Mr CSeal, failing to deposit his plans in the Auckland office. He has now jnst sent them np, and Mr Smith the assistant surveyor general has been instructed to lose no time in sending yon a tracing as soon as the plans are passed." Since the above communication was . received, Mr Robertson, (secretary), lias received a telegram informing him that the selection map lias l»een posted him. With regard to the price of the land, we may state that Mr Robertson recently received a comrnunieation from Mr J. B. Whvte enclosing- a letter he had received from the Minister of Lands, informing him that the price would be £,1 per 'acre. We sincerely tiust the settlers will find the land allotted them as desirable and productive as they anticipate, and that the settlement will prove a thorough success ; they certainly deserve to succeed. [Since the above was written the plan has come to hand, and the committee have decided that the allot nients shall be diawn for early next month."]
