Union. — On Wednesday last cleaning up for this miuo eventuated at the
Martha battery, where 165 tons of genquartz had been dealt with for the handsome Return of 2530zs retorted gold. The lode from which this crushing Tras obtained averaged 3£t in tbickand, excepting the 20 tons selected _for transport to England, ev^ry particle *<ef the -atone broken out was passed through the battery. Martha Extended.-=-The late cleaning lip'fortliis mine resulted in a return of 148oss retorted gold, being the result of six weeks' run. with 15 head of -stampers, and this will leave a handsome margin of profit after allowing for 'all working. Winner. — A large body of quartz "was encountered in the face of the low 4evel yesterday after a distance of 65ft had been driven, but up to the present "this has nt>t been sufficiently cut into to •determine its intrinsic worth. • Silverton. — The lode has split up into "two distinct bodies ol stone in the low •level going southwards, bat the manager expects it to come together again in a few feet more driving. Kext week stoping operations will be started for the ■purpose 'of breaking out a crushing which -will be sent to the Martha battery -for treatment.
