, ■» : • j The concert held in the public hall/ Waiorongomai, on Friday evening, 16th iast (in aid of the funds for planting, the school grounds etc.,) : was acoin-

plete success, Mr George Beeson presided. The attendance was very large, and everything passed off without a hitch ; and the committee are deserving ot great credit. As stated in last issut 1 , the report of the proceed ing 3 only reached us just before going to press, necessitating- a very brief notice on that occasion. We now' append the programme in full :—^ Overture, " English Quadrille," The Misses Wainwright ; chorus, " See our oars," Miss Maaon, Messrs Burgess, Whitehouse, Ferguson, Hirsfc, and Parish j song, " Come back to Erin," Mrs Lawless ; encore, " Help me o'er the Stile ;" song (comic), " Peter Simple," Mr Emmett ; song, " Come, birdie come," Miss Hirst ; encored; song, v I cannot sing the old songs," Mrs Thorn ; song, " Killarney," Mr Chas. Finale, " God Save the Queen.' 1 Deserving of special mention were 'the songs by Messrs Chas. Gordon, and Stauton, the laUer gentleman's singing being exceptionanally good. Miss Hirst too, for so very young a performer !in public, did remarkably well. The I quartettes (2), were really well rendered; whilst the pianoforte selections by the Misses Wainwright were played in good style. The piece of the evening, however was the selection from Shakespear, | recited by Mr Chas. Gordon, in a most able and impressive manner. A very pleasing feature of the evening was the presentation to Mrs T. Lawless of a testimonial, and purse of sovereigns. The presentation was made by Mrs H. U. Adams, who read the testimonial, which set forth the residents at Waiorongomai thus desired to record their appreciation of tue valuable assistance that Mrs Lawless had given during the past few years in all their entertainments, etc., the regret felt that Mr and Mrs Lawless should have decided to leave the district, and wishing them every happiness and prosperity. Mr Lawless responded in suitable terms. The chairman at the close heartily ■ thanked all who had assisted by their presence, and specially those who had so cheerfully taken part, and thereby made the concert such a success. At the close of the concert the Hall was cleared for dancing, which was kept up with spirit for several hours.
