EXPLOSIONS HEARD IN THE SOUTH ISLAND. Wellington, this day.
The explosions of the volcanic eruption were heard in Wellington, and as far South as Bleuheim. Dr Lemon states that the sound of the eruption was heard from Auckland to Blenheim. At Marton it was imagined to be a vessel in distress in the Straits. At Featherston they thought it was a gale in Pallieer Bay. o.
