A MAN KILLED IN A WELL. Hawera, June 4.

Hawbra, A shocking fatality occurred here thie morning, by which Joßeph McWilliams, aged twenty-two, lost his lite. <> Deceased, -who was brother-in-law to Mr A..A. Fan» tham, had been sinking a well' on the farm of the latter, and this morning was lowered into the well without being tied. He let go his hold before reaching the bottom —having been overpowered by gas. • Strenuous efforts have been made for several hours to reach the xbody, but they have been of no avail. There is a seam of lignite'at ths bottom of the well,' which is eighty feet deep. There have been no previous indications of any danger.
