New Zealand Smelting Company.

An extraordinary general meeting of the shareholders of this Company was held at the Chamber of Commerce at eleven o'cluck this morning, under the presidency of Mr J. M. Lennox, Chairman of Directors. The business was purely formal, consisting of the statutory confirmation of the resolution that the Company be wound up voluntarily, and that Mr Menzies be appointed liquidator under the supervision of the direptors. The confirmation of the motion was moved by the Chairman, seconded by Mr Porter, and carried without comment, and the Chairman was authorised to sign the minutes of the meeting. Mr Porter, in moving a vote of thanka to the Chairman, eaid the operations of the Company had resulted unsatisfactorily, but the directors had not shirked their duty and did not intend to do so. The Chairman had always been in hia place, and he thought he was entitled to their thanks. Mr Campbell seconded, and the resolution was carried. The Chairman, in acknowledging the compliment thus paid him, said that he regretted the unsatisfactory result of the Company's operations, both on account of the shareholders, who bad loat their money, and on account of the Thames go'dfields. He hoped, however, that some good would snrinor out of it. The meeting then dissolved.
