The Queen's Public Appearance.
For some reason or other, whether it be in consequence of the representations of those entitled to address Her Majesty on the subject, or because the spread of Socialism on the Continent and in England has impressed the regal mind, or because the Queen feels it incumbent upon her ,to do something to aid in the revival of trade, it ia in possible to say, but the fact remains that Britons are at the present moment seeing a gopd deal more of the face of their Mo3t Gracious Sovereign than they have done formerly for years together. Her Majesty takes an occasional drive in Rotten Row, last week she opened a Medical School on the Thames .Embankment, she has selected the 4th of May as the date for oponing the Indian and Colonial Exhibition, and the week afterwards she is going to pay a visit to Liverpool, a city which she has not visited for nearly 40 years Concurrently -with Her Majesty's emorgence from her long retirement, the Prince of Wales has been appearing somewhat less in public. But Hia Royal Highness is not likely to regret this circumstance. It is well-known that he finds the social duties thrown upon him by the Queen's secluded life exceedingly iiksome, though he never complains outside his circle of intimates. His Royal Highness would prefer to lead the simple life of an English country gentleman, and allow the ceremonial duties of his high position to devolve on someone else. He is known to have hoped that Prince Albert Victor would have relieved him in this respect, but hitherto tho young Prince has shown ro great aptitude for social functions.
