Battery.— The batteiy has been running full time for the past week. No retorting iian taken place this week for the Ne<v Find. Returns :■— Galena : 159 trucks crushed from this inino yielded 750z of retorted gold. The battery is now employed as follows : New Find 20 stampor.s, Galena 15 do, Colonist 5 do. Tailingplant ; 26 berdans for New Find, balance for Battery Company.

This week a trial parcel of three trucks obtained from the winze in .the Virginia City portion of the ground has been tieated at Firth's battery, but the return is not yet knowr. Galena and Colonist. — Work has been resumed in both these mines by the Battery Company. M«sKis Munio and party are engaged in prospecting in the Young Caledonia ground, Nkw Kua Battkby.— Mr N Dickey, contractor, P.ieioa, has had two teams engaged this week conveying material required for the erection of the colcining furnaces. Mr P. Quinlan this week conveyed two tons of ore^nu the Champion Lode claim, Tui Cieek, which was .it once put through the stone- breaker, the result of the treatment of this parcel by the new battery will be a matter of great interest.

TE AROHA.— TUI MINES. Champion Lode Claim No. I.— Sinking the winze in steadily in progress. The country ih good sandstone. Champion Lode No. 3.— Some of the men nre now engaged in breaking, out quartz from the No. 2 reef in this ground, fur the furnace. Driving on tho reef is in progress, aud stone of really excellent quality being obtained, estimated to be worth from £12 to £14 per ton. The reef here is 4ft wide, carrying well defined walls, and the country good sandstone. A little gold has been visiblo in breaking out. fo Kkkp it DARK.-Prospecting this ground is now being pioceeded with, and already Mr John Shea, who is in charge, has exposed three roefs in the ground, viz:'l wnat may be termed the Surprise reef, being trsced from the boundary of the Surprise claim, showing carbonate of lead in small quantities ; 2 Champion Lode No 1 reef ) ami 3 a new reef carrying some of the richest galena ore yet discovered in this district, the leader being about a foot in thickness. Mvuk Moon.— Mr J. R. S. Wilson, a well known and skilful mine manager, arrived from this week to take charge of this claim, which, from its position, should prove a valuable propeity. Work at present is confined to prospecting. Tracks.— The track to Camerons claim is now about completed (Hyde and paity), but it will probably take fully another foitmglit before the track to the Surprise chum is finished (P.
