Tiik American ship Paul Jones, l>205 tons, which left this port on the 17th March, bound for Calcutta in ballast, caught fire in tbo Straits soon after leasing, and in «pite of all efforts to extinguish the flames, was gutted, -ond burned to the water's edge, The vessel had to be abandoned. The crew, who took to the boats, weie picked up by a pasfing vefc&ol and brought to Melbourne.
