Cr Humphreys asked if the proposed new tracks would give access to what is known as Kirker's reef, «s it was important that it should be opened up. Mr Pavitt replied that it would. Cr Nicholls said that the contract for improving the Big Swamp only amounted to some L 39 and he now moved thai the balance of the money be expended in making the ro.id through the smaller swamps passsble for traffic. Licensing Commissionera.~The Clerk to the Licensing Bench wrote making ap plication for stationery, and in for ning the Council that a salary of LlO per annum had been votod to him at the last meeting of the Commissioners.. The matter of supplying the stationery was left to the clerk and chairman with power to act, and the question of paying the salary was referred to the Finance Committee. Karangah^ke Extension Road. — A number of miners ami others interested in claims located in the neighbourhood of the above road made application for money to improve and make it passable prior to the coming winter. The Clerk was instructed to write and inform the applicants that a contract had just been let for carrying out the work in question. Progress Payments.— Messrs Marsh and Wilson wrote asking for progress payment on work don« on the Karangaliake Road contract. Referred to the Foreman of Works for report. Puke-Paeroa Road. — An application from ratepayers adjoining this road was read, urging the necessity of its being put in a passable condition before winter ; estimated cost L3O. Referred to Board of Works to report on. Waitawheta Gorge. — Messrs Kenny and Jackson surveyors wrote enclosing plans and specifications for a tramway through the gorge estimated cost, L 5,414 16s.
