London, March 4. — The Oriental Com , pany, who acquired Mr Edison's telephone patents, claim a royalty from the South Australian Government on all Edison telephones used in South Australia. London, March I.— The Assets Company, which was formed by the Oriental Banking Company, ia offering to purchase the deposits in the Commercial Bank of South Auatraiia. Mr Octavius Morgan, who resigned his seat for Battersea in consequence of having been concerned in Government contracts at the time of his election, has been re-elected for that constituency. Lord Randolph Churchill, in a speech at Manchester, said the Conservative party would support a Liberal or a coalition Government. London, March 5 —In the House of Commons last night, the Right Hon. H. Holmes brought forward his motion, of which he had previously given notice, to the effect that the House declined to vote supplies for Ireland without further inforformation as to the intention of the Government with regard to that country, After considerable discussion a division was taken, with the result that the motion was negatived. A model of the statue of her Majesty the Queen, by Joseph E. Boehm, R.A , who wa3 commissioned to make it by the Government of New South Wales for their National Art Gallery, has been submitted to Sir Saul Samuel and Lord Rosebry, who have expressed bheir approval of it. Godfrey Egremont, late secretary of the Adelaido, Kensington, and Noiwood Building and Investment Society, who recently absconded to Stuttgart, Germany, having embezzled the funds of the Society,and who was extradited on the request of the English authoiities, has been brought up at Bow street, and remanded to Adelaide. The Empire Club has been clossd for lack of support. Sir R. N. Fowler, referring to the proposal to establish a post-card system with the colonies, considers that it would involve heavy loss. The long-pending libel action, Bryce v. Rusden, has been commenced. The weekly report of the Bank of England gives the proportion of reserve to liability a3 46 per cent., being 3 per cent, lower than last week. The total reserve in notes and bullion ig £14,000,000, a decline cf £900,000 during the same period. The directors of the Bank of Australasia have declared a dividend for the half-year at the rate of 15 per cent, per annum ; a sum of £22,000 being brought forward and carried to the reserve. Arrangements have been concluded whereby two bars will be opened at the forthcoming Colonial Exhibition exclusively for the sale of Australian wines. Constantinople, March 4. —Advices from the frontier state that the Gresk forces are collecting much nearer the boundaries of the two countries.
