TE AROHA.

A 'reef qnifco distinct from tlief Champion Lode, and situated some 10 cluiins to eastward, lma boeu attracting- con-

siderable attention the last few flay??, a. couple of claims were pegged off last week, and a number of persons have visited the locality, and several more claims been pegged this week. The ulatd of sfone is somewhat similar in appearance to the ordinal lode. • Great credit is due to Mr C. A* Conies for the pluck and energy he* has displayed by forming a branch track some 40 chains in length to No 3 Champion Lode claim on his own responsibility. The track is a very useful one, and would no doubt have been nmde by the County sooner or l?ter, but Comes being anxious at once get out a quantity of quartz, decided to form the track forthwith himself, and so get as much quartz as possible con f eyed down | to the flat during the dry wether ; and has applied to the county to recoup him for his outlay. From the start Comes has practically evinced the greatest confidence with respect to the' highly payable nature of his claim's, and a desire to have the dirt therefrom tested in every possible way. Some si* tons of dirt were forwarded to Thames last week ; about 9 tons on ThnFsday last and some 5 tons by the Patiki this morning, in all abont 20 tons. Of this about two tons was obtained from the original lode in No. 1 Champion claim, the remainder from No 2 lode in Champion claim No 3. The champion lodes alone could easily output twenty tons weekly at the present time, even with the difficulty attendant on sledging quartz. The result of their present large trial parcel forwarded to the Thames Smelting Company will be anxiously awaited. During the last week several persons well skilled in mining have visited the reefs, and expressed themselves- as satisfied that there was a big future in store for the district. In the No 2 lode in Champion' No- 3? claim already referred to, stone is now being bmken out for a distance of 70 feet along the reef,> all of which' it is the intention of the oivners to forward to Thames.
