WAIORONGOMAI.

Battery. — The battery bas been at work regularly since last report, but already the water supply has so decreased as to necessitate the hanging up of several stampers, during the last day or so, and only 25 head are now running 15 on New Find quartz, 10 for the Galena claim. No retort will take place this week, but probably a retort will be made »n Monday next for the New Find only. The tAfliugs pLnt is working 32 berdaus for New Find, and balance for Battery Company.

TraSiway.- -Trucking was re-com-menced on Wednesday and has continued since, but with the diminished number of stampers at work, probably will be only working half time in the course of a few days.

THE MINES (Waiorongomai). Galena (late Lucky Hit). — Some twenty hands are at r resent engaged in breaking out quartz from this mine, which is giving employment to 10 head of stampers at the battery. The reef is promising in appearance, and we this week saw some pieces of veally rich stone from them, which had been broken oilt during the past few days. New Find. — The full staff were again set to work in this claim on Monday last ; there is nothing new to report ag to the general appearance of the mine. May Queen. — Two hands are at present on the ground. New Battery. — The second selfacting grade is now well laid and ballasted, and the rails, sleepers, etc., for the last section all on the ground, so that this portion of the works stiould not take long. The turn-table at the hoppers is also erected, and only a little trestle work is needed to complete the connections. The breaks aro in position, most of the pipes are also in posicion, 1 and about half already fixed. Consideri able delay was occasioned owing to the low state of the river for steamer traffic, aa from this cause the arrival of Ihe pipes was considerably delayed. However, should nothing at present! unforseen occur in connection with the ■works, everything should be ready for a start next month. The whole work in connection with this battery is of firstclass quality, and put together in the best manner.
