The damage ih estimated at £350, and wan insured in the New Zea land Office for £150. House quite new. Auckland, Last Night. Six hundred Wai ka to excursionists arrived by train to-day. The Presbytenan Assembly to-day had an animated d bate, on religions instruction in public school*, and finally cirried a resolution in favour of Bible reading. Produce Market, to day : — Wholesale : Butter, prime fresh, Is ; salt, 9d to IO«1 ; cheese, good factory, s£d to 6d ; eggs, Is 3d ; bacon and hums in cloth, Provincial, C£d to B£d. Wellington, last night. The Government steamer Hinemoa pails to-day or to-morrow for K-iwUia harbour, with a load of telegraph poles for putting Kawhiain telegraphic coinniunicatiou with the other parts of the colony. The present arrangement |is that the Hinemon shall afterwards sail via- the North Cape for Waiwera to pick up Sir Julius Vogel and bring him to Wellington.
SUICIDE AT CHRISTGHURCH. ChristchUrch, laßt night. William Collinga, fnrmer at Oh.ikf, blew out his bruin* *vith a fowling- piece yesterday. He had been despondent.
ATTEMPTED SUICIDE. Dunkdin, lust night. Mrs Mary Ann Caslon attemptad suicide by cutting her throat. Her injuries are but slight. She hag been drinking heavily. It is said that the woman has been left by her husband for some time with a young family, and this preyed on her mind.
