OHINEMURI. (FROM OUT OWN CORRESPONDENT.) Paeroa, Friday.

A fully atended meeting of the Ohinemuri Jocky Ctub was held in the Public Hall on last Saturday evening, when it was decided that the annual race meeting should be held in Mr T. Logans Paddock on the 17th March next. A programme of the races was drawn up, jind copies of the same will be sent to the local papers for publication in a few days time. After some discussion the following gentlemen were duly elected to fulfil the duties of the under noted offices in connection with the meeting, viz : —Judge, Mr D. Snodgrass. Senr ; •Starter, Mr Charles Wight ; Clerk of the Course, Mr H. Brady ; Handicappers, Messrs T. Snodgrass and R. Majury ; Clerk of the Scales, Mr F. Cock ; Secretary and Treasurer, Mr E. Edwards. Mr J. M. Coote was appointed President, and F. Lipsey vicepresident of the club, with power to countersign all cheques. The principal events will be : —Publicans' Purse 15 sots ; Hurdle Race 20sovs ; and Handicap, 25sovs. The committee expect to realise about £200, and a good day's sport may be anticipated. The search for iron ore required for fluxing purposes has resulted in the discovery of three distinct deposits in different parts of the district. The most important discovery was made by Mr Carew, who has devoted a considerable amount of time to the work of prospecting for.it. His iron ore find- is located about 2 miles north of Karangahake, and is within easy distance of the Thames-Tauranga road with which it could be connected at a. comparatively trifling cost. I believe it is the intention of Mr Carew who has already made application for a title of the grouud, to start working the deposit at once, so as to be ready to supply the Woodstock Smelting Company with ore for fluxing p irpi ses, as soon as they are ready to start ; and I hope that he will be handsomely rewarded for his plnck and perseverance. Of late a good deal has been said and written about the new find at .Whangamata, which place gained some unenviable notoriety as being the scene of a bogue rush some years ago. Upon making enquiries, however, I learn that the newly-discovered auriferous region is not any where near Whangamata, but is located some miles distant from that place, and within easy distance of the East Coast. "Parakawai" is the Moari name for the district, which ia thickly studied with kaura timber, and there is an abundance of water for motive power in the neighbourhood. The prospectors speak highly of the size and quality of the reef system which they say, can be traced for miles with strong indications of being gold-bearing throughout. Several large areas have been marked off, but, up to the present, work has been confined to the prospectors' claim where Dfhar and party have opened out on several reefs with very satisfactory results. A few days since I was shown some stone broken out from reefs in the above mentioned locality, and in which gold was freely visable. The prospectors state that there is one large well defined reef in their grouni, which prospects for a return equal to 3oz per ton, and they are now endeavouring to bring capital to bear upon its.developement. With regard to Waihi, Owharoa, and Waitekauri, the different batteries have all been idle owing to a short supply of water.
