At a meeting of the School of Mines Committee, Thames, on Wednesday morning, ( DrKi]gourand Colonel Fraser, M.H.R,, tendered their resignations us candidates for the presidency, which were ncceptecj.j Ifc was then moved . by Mr Alexander Br6die, seconded by Mr J. H. Crawford, and carried, li That in recognition'of the services rendered and the deep interest he has invariably taken in regard to scientific « instruction, the committee agree to recommend that Mr Justice' Gillies be the first president of the Thames School of Mines Association, and that Dr Kilgour, Chairman of the Committee, be empowered to place himself :'m communication >rith the judge, and take the necessary steps to carry oiitthe wishes of the committee." For the' two vice-pmidential chairs Dr Kilgour^nd Warden Kenrick are the only candidates, and are therefore elocted without, 'opposition, and Messrs Watson and Bruce are returned in like manner to ;i;b.e . offices of treasurer and secretary,* respectively. Only the committee of^ nine gentlemen therefore remains tc~be chosen. Arrangements were made foxHhe issue of ballot-papers to all qualifiedlfmembers, which will be returnable onff^Monday, the 11th tfan'tfiuy.
