Melbourne, Nov. 26.— 1t has been agreed that the Federal Council, consisting of the representatives of Victoria, Queens land, Tasmania, Western Australia, and Fiji shall meet at Hobarfc on the 25th of January next. It is improbable that South Australia will be represented, as it is not expected the Legislature will pass the Enabling Bill during the present session.
Melbourne, November 30.— The second trial of Joseph Symes, editor of the "Liberator," which was rendered necessary by the non-agreement of the jury at the first trial, took place to-day. Defendant was charged with taking money at the door of his lecture-room on Sunday evenings. The jury were unable to agree, and accordingly were again discharged.
Melbourne, Dec. 1— At a meeting of the Australian Frozen Meat and Export Company, held yesterday, it was decided to wind up the company.
Mflbourxe, Dec. 2. — The manager of the National Mortgage Agency Company (Limited) reports of the local grain market as follows :— Wheat, shipping, 3s lid to 4s ; fair demand Barley, malting, 3s 6d to 4s ; dull. New Zealand oats, feed, 2s 9d to 2s lid ; no improvement. New Zealand do. milling, 2s lid to 3s; moderate inquiry. New Zealand do. under bond, 21 Id to 23 6d.
Sydney, tfov. 26.— The debate in the Legislative Assembly on the no-confidence motion of Sir John Kobertson still continues. It is improbable the division will be taken before next week. The Government party are much weaker, and their chauces of success are by no means certain.
Sydney, Dec. 2. — The official reception of Lord Carrington, the Governor-elect, takes place on Saturdry week, December 12th.
Hobart,3 Wov 30.— A deadlock has oc curred between tho Legislative Council and the House of Assembly owing to the former body insisting upon its power of amending a debenture bill sent up from the Lower House.
Adelaide, Nov 30. — The Meesageries Maritimes s.s. Caledonien brings Mauritius reports to November 13th. Messrs Ireland, Fraser and Co. report on the sugar market as follows : — The weather has been very favourable lately, and the crop has been harvested in good condition. It is expected to be considerably below the average, and it is teared is even below the estimated yield of 100,000 tons. The month's clearances for New Zealand ports comprise: For Christchurch 300 tons, and Dunedin 300 tons. The month's engagements are : For Christchurch 300, and Dunedin 400 tone. Freight to Australia, 17s to 25s ; to New Zealand, 25s to 30s. Exchange, sixty days' bank credits, sellers 29 per cent., buyers 26 per cent. The stock of sugar on hand is 29,000 tons, and the exports to New Zealand this season 1,500 tons.
London, November 19.— The Australian banks have refused to deduct the incometax from the interest accruing on deposits lodged "with them by colonists in England.
London, November 24. — The visible stocks of beet sugar, including floating cargoes for Europe and America, are about 92,000 tons in excess of those at the same time in 1884,
London, November 25. ~lt is reported that the organisers of the recent Inventions Exhibition held in London lost about £16,000.
London, November 25.— The Blag Flags have recat)tured the stronghold of Langson, in Tonqufn, which was lately held by the French forces under General Negrier.
