SILVER MINES IN AUSTRAL IA.
We extract the following items from files of the " Sydney News " just received :—: — The steamer Austrial, for London, took on account of the Sunny Corner Silver-min-ing Company, 39 bars refined silver, containing a small percentage of gold weighing 51,1650z, valued at £12,151, making a total quantity shipped of 556,4100z, or 16 tons 17cwt 3qr3 231ba since the beginning o! the present year. The work of deepening the shaft of the Broken Hill Proprietary Company is being continued. The ore passed through ha 9 assayed very regularly, and always showed the presence of payable silver. Sinking is proceeding at No. 5, the ore carrying good silver. A parcel of 48 tons recently treated in Melbourne gave the magnificent yield of 34,597 0z5. of fine silver, which will more than cover all the expense yet incut red on the property. The return for the week's crushing of the Day Dream stuff was 23 tons bulHon,Jearrying over 15,0000z5. of silver. Some surface prospectings in the old workings have yielded assays reaching 2400z5.
News From Temora-Rich Find of Gold. The "Argus" correspondent wroto :—: — The remarkable discovery in the upper town has caused much excitement among: miners, and the Mother Shipton Reef is now the principal topic. Beside a specimen of 341bs in weight, and some 251bs of gold previously sold during the week, there have been obtained 141b or 151b of "slugs," and a remarkable nugget or specimen weighing 120z5., almost of pure gold. The reef has been discovered in the adjoining claim (Cross's Reef), bat nothing is known at present as to its value.
