; BOARD OF EDUCATION. Auckland, Friday. The Board of Education to-day resolved to reduce the head master's salary by £100 per annum, and atso to appoint female instead of male assistants, thereby »naking a total reduction of £711. At the Board of Education to-dny a letter was received from the InspectorGeneral of Schools stating that the attention of the Minister of Education had been drawn to the scholarship regulations adopted by the Board, which rendora it difficult for country schools to compete. The letter pointed out that the standard was higher than that adopted in any other provincial district, and recommended a reduction of demands with respect to latin, algebra, and euclid. A letter was ulao received, signed by all the Auckland members, representing the injustice done to country schools, and poor scholars by these legnlationß, and urging an amendment somewhat in the direction recommended by the Hamilton West Committee.
