[REUTERS CABLEGRAM.] The Great Metropolitan Stakes. Sydney, Sept 15.
The Metropolitan Meeting is now causing some little excitement, and the following are the latest quotations for the Great Metropolitan Stakes : — Despot is being backed for small sums at 100 to 30 ; Prince Imperial, 100 to 20 (off) ; The Broker, Silver King, and Honeydew s 100 to 10 (off) ; Tom Brown, 100 to 8 ',off) ; from 100 to S to 100 to 2 any other. The following horses have been scratched for the race : — Kingsdale, Glen Elgin, Coolabah, Highland Mary, Cardigan, and Dagobert.
Lust Wednesday's Melbourne "Sportsman " reports that Thunderbolt has a badly cracked heol, and a "littb bird" whispeis that he is a very unlikely candidate for the V.R.C. Blue Riband honours. Uralla was scratched for the Hawke&bury Guineas on Tuesday last. The final acceptors for the race were Lamia, Eagle Grange, Angora, Firc-t Chester, Nordenfeldt, Cairo, Courtier, and Crystal. A Sydney paper of last week says that E. Mason, the well-known trainer, has severed his connection with the Hon. W. Hcbinson. The y.H.C. Derby favourite >ewstead has arrived at Melbourne, and is doing steady work. He is said to look the beau ideal of a Derby colt. Sydney papers record that Caliban has been scratched for the Melbourne Cup.
