THE MINES.
New Find. — Good progress is being made in driving no»*th from low level on No. 1 reef, and the manager expects to connect in about a week. This reef has considerably improved , during the past few days, and som« veiy fair gold is now showing. In No. 1 reef in the stopea above Arizona level, good crushing dirt is still being obtained, also from the surface of this reef very fair crashing dirt is coming -to hand. On No. 2 reef, in the block above No. 1 level stoping is being proceeded with, and some really good quartz is being* obtained. The Calif ornian rock borer lately introduced, and now constantly being worked in this mine, gives every satisfaction, and is now employed in completing the drive in No. 1 reef to connect with winze. In the Diamond Gully section of the company's ground, work has had to be temporarily discontinued owing to the amount of water in the workings through recent heavy rainfall. O'Keeffe and party this week obtained the very excellent return of lOoz sdwts retorted gold from lewt dirt crushed from the Wellington mine.
