TAX ON COLONIAL BONDS. London, July 27. In the House of Commons to-night the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Sir Michael -Hicks-Beach, announced thai he had agreed to make the tax 01 colonial bonds 2s 6d per cent.
DEATH OF SIE MOSES MONTEFIOIiE. London, Ju}j 29. The death is announce!, in his 101 st year, of Sir Moses Montefiore, Bart., the well known Jewish philanthropist. SIR H. D. WOLFFS MISSION. In the House of Commons to- Jay, Sir Michael Hicks-Beach seated, in reply to a question, that Sir Henry Drommond Wolff was accredited to His Majesty the Snltan in the first instance, bnt that he woulj afterwards proceed to Egjpfc, mid endeavour to secure the peace of that country.
THE ENABLING BILL. London, July 28. Mr J. F. Garriclc. Mr Murray cSmith, and Sir Arthur Blyth, Agtnts- General for Qneensland, \ictoria, ancL South Australia, are endeavouring to promote the immediate passage of the Federal Enabling Bill, while on the other hand Sir Saul Samuel, Agent-General for New South Wales, is seeking to have it postponed until February.
CARDINAL MORAN. Cardinal Moran lias presented the Propaganda with his valuable geological collection. Before returning to Sydney he will visit; Ireland for the purpose of recruiting forty ecclesiaties for Australia.
BANK FAILURE. The failure of Baion Grant (G r ant anl Co., bankers), for a quarter of a million pounds, is announced.
COLONIAL CRICKETERS FOR ENGLAND. Melbourne, July 30. The Melbourne Cricket Club have agreed to accept the invitation to send a representative team to England this year.
