DIRECT STEAM SERVICE. The Coptic Leaves London for Auckland.
Auckland at last appears likely to receive a fair share of the direct steam service with Great Britain. Cable advices have been received by the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Co. 'a agents here that their steamer Coptic, which leaves Plymouth on the 28th instant, will make Auckland her first port of call. The Company in question are to be congratulated upon tho enterprise they are displaying, and it is to their credit that they are the first to recognise the importance of the Auckland trade. Repeated promises are being made by the opposition Company that they will despatch steamers from London to Auckland ; but while they are wholly inactive otherwise, the Shaw, Savill Company have one steamer, the Doric, on the way, and another almost ready to start. The Shaw, Savill, and Albion Co., we are informed, are determined to gain and hold the trade with this port.
