BICYCLE RACES AT CHRISTCHURCH.
Chbistohuroh, January 26. The annual bicycle races, held on Saturday were favoured with representatives from Northern and Southern provinces. J.Fitton arid H. Stewart, of Auckland, contested } also C. Fisher, P. E. Baldwin, F. A. Cutten, E. P. Fulton, from Dunedin. Good prizes were offered, and consequently _ entries were large. Some 40 cyclists in fancy and grotesque costumes went from Cathedral Square in* procession to Lancaster Park, where the sports were held. A violent nor'-wester, with much dust, made things anything but pleasant for the wheelmen and spectators. The following are tho events : — One Mile Maiden Race, IJS entries. — First heat, L. Simpson (C.8.C.), 200 yards, and J. Godfrey (C.8.C.), 200 yards ; dead heat ; time, 3miDS. 47£secs. Bicycle Race, One Mile Maiden.— Second heat : C. Recce, P.8.C., scratch, 1 ; A. J. Warren, C.8.C., 60yds, 2. Time, 3mins 53 2-ssecs. Final heat : C. Recce, 1 ; A. J. Warren, 2. Time, 3mins 27secs. Slow Kace, 100yds.— Four entries. Won by F. R. Dunsford. One Mile, for Championship of N.Z. — First heat : W. Langdon, P.8.C., scratch, 1 ; P. E. Barlow, D.8.C., scratch, 2. Second heat: F. A. Cutten, D.8.C., scratch, 1 ; F. R. Dunsford, P.8.C., scratch, 2. Final heat : W. H. Langdon, 1 ; F. A. Cutten, 2; P. E. Barlow, 3. Time, 3mins. Osecs. Fitton, of Auckland, fell, breaking his machine. Mile Bicycle Handicap. — Langdon, scratch, 1 ; H. Recce (Pioneer), 110 yards, 2 ; H. Baldwin (Dunedin), 50 yards, 3. Time, 3mins. 15secs. Five Mile Race.— W, A. Thompson (Pioneer), 140 yards, 1 ; J. A. Warren (Christchurch), 450 yards, 2 ; T. Godfrey (Christchurch), 850 yards, 3. Time (official), ldmins. 52secs. Two Mile Race (Coventry Machine Company bicycles).— H. Woodruff (Christchurch),. 500 yards, 1 ; C. J. Atkinson (Pioneer), 450 yards, 2. Three Mile Handicap. — F. J. Saville (Christchurch), 100 yards, 1 ; W. Langdon (Pioneer), scratch, 2 j P. E. Baldwin (Dunedin), 110 yards, 3. Time, pmins. 39secs. Ten Mile Race. — Bahvin (Dunedin), 450 yards, 1; F. A. Cutten, scratch, 2; E. R. Fulton, 050 yards, 3, Time, 34mins. 45secs. This race was left to the visitors, the Christchurch men not competing.
