It i.« rumoured in political circles here that the Imperial Cloveniment is willing, if New Zealand thinks that its own affairs do not afifuid suflicicnfc fccupe for itn energies, to allow it to take clmrgc of and administer the dflair-of Fiji The costof government in that colony is understood to impose considerable strain on the Impeiial purse, and Lord. Derby has indicated that he would be quite willing to transfer this to the New Zealand Treasury, and r ompenoate this colony for the loss of Samoa by giving it Fiji.
