BOARD OF EDUCATION.
[From twoAucLland "Star, "December 2o.) Tiik weekly meeting of the Board of Education was held at2o'clock yesterday afternoon. Present :— Mr Luke (Chairman), Professors Tucker and Aldis, Messrs Carr, Goldie, Moss, Cooper, and Moat. A large number of minor applications from the country were dealt with. The Education Reserves Commissioners notified the payment of £250 for the district high schools of Cambridge and Hamilton. — Professor Aldia moved, "That in deference to the wishes of the district, Miss Spence be re-employed as teacher of the "\\ aitetune School for a period of six months. A letter from the Waitetune Committee on the matter was read. Its tone \t as considered by sovoral members to be of a most threatening character. The motion was carried, and it -was decided to take no notice of tho letter. — The Inspector reported that the district of Helensville might now be divided. Itwasdecidedtodividethe district. A memorial was received from the residents of Buckland asking that the district be separated from the Pukekohe East School District. The Pukekohe School Cormmttee objected to the alteration of the boundaries. After discussion, it was decided to defer the
matter. The Sur>- Inspector. — Mr Coldie moved, "That Mr Ponsonby Peacocko be asked to state whether he is the person mentioned in Thursday's Star as being sued for a sum or sums of money and ordered to six months' imprisonment in default." Mr Cooper thought that if it were so they should have some explanation from Mr Peacocko as to how, with his salary, he had got into difficulties. — Mr Moss thought it a bad system that they should be both accusers and judges. He thought there should be some regulation for meeting cases of this kind — The Chairman moved as an amendment, " That the matter be deferred till next meeting."— The amendment was carried on the casting vote of the Chairman. Cambridge. — Application that the school bo painted during the holidays. The cost would not exceed £70. — Mr Moat moved, " That a list be prepared of Committees who have applied for grants from Building Fund, the amount applied for, and that the Board then decide on grants." — This was carried. Sinoino Teachers — The Board in committee considered Mr Bloomfield's report on singing teachers, and it was resolved on the Board resuming to inform Mr Cranwell that the Board has no intention of altering existing arrangements.
Waiorongomai. — An application to separate Waiorongomai from the To Aroha school district was granted. Puxi and Mauku.— With regard to the division of these districts, it was agreed to accept the boundaries suggested by the Assistaut Surveyor General. Tliis was all the business.
